I Always Draft, but Hardly Publish
I often find myself writing drafts of what to write on here, but then, when I actually have time so sit down and write some stuff, I never do it. Its not that I don’t want to write anything… Its just that a lot of the thoughts I have that I want to share are impulsive and rely on the situation and environment that I am in when I am having the thought. By the time I am free to write, the moment is past and the thought is no longer as dire as it was earlier in the day.
I would like to finally say my piece about the weather. I am never really one to complain about the weather. What is the point? My complaining isn’t going to change it. All complaining about the weather does is make you more mad because you keep thinking about it and how unhappy you are. Nothing is more of a reminder than one huge thing you’re constantly surrounded by which you have zero control over. HOWEVER, I will make this my one time to publicly say that I am SICK of winter. I am SICK of snow. I am SICK of crappy roads. I am SICK of my truck looking like crap because of all the dirt, salt, and washer fluid constantly coming in contact with it. I am SICK of my pants getting stained from the weather. I am SICK of crappy gas mileage from having to carry an extra 300 lbs of sand in the back of my truck and 4x4 usage. I sick of the sun never being out. I am sick of not being able to golf. I am sick of not being tan (haha). I am sick of being inside. I’m sick of the lack of motivation that comes with the winter. Most of all, I am sick of so many people that somehow “forget” how to drive in the snow EVERY SINGLE TIME IT SNOWS.
Now that I got that out of my system, I’ll cover some current events.
School:
Criminal Evidence and Procedure- This class is very boring content wise. It is ALL case law and all of them sound the same. More so than the content, the people in the class really annoy me. They act like they’re still in high school even though they’re 19-25 years old, or older in some cases. All they talk about his how often they break the law driving, what they did when they were drunk, and who they call for drugs, and these people want to be police officers? Wow… The only thing that keeps me calm in this class is the professor. He is a long time police officer and also an instructor at the CREST center. For those who don’t know, the CREST center is one of the foremost police, fire, and emergency training facilities in the midwest. It is behind the J Building at OCC Auburn Hills Campus. I will post a link to it soon. Anyway, the professor has a lot of knowledge that comes from experience, not text books. It is far more valuable than reading pages. He is also very funny and he swears a lot. I find this to be more than commonplace in the criminal justice career path. Its comforting, haha.
Police Communications- This is another boring class, but for the most part, it is enjoyable. The professor is obviously a smart guy. He is another long time police officer and also worked with Joe Biden for a few years in Washington when Biden worked for the federal criminal justice system. He had a lot of good things to say about Biden, which is reassuring. This class stresses the importance of police communication and its elements. He teaches 100% from powerpoint, which is boring. The power points are taken right out of the notes. He is also very dry. It is very easy to zone out, especially when you’re already read the chapters he is covering. Professor Aud brings up a lot of interesting thoughts and examples that keep you interested though, otherwise the whole class would fall asleep.
Police Administration- I have a feeling this class is going to change my life. Chief Joseph Thomas of the Southfield Police Department is the professor for this class. He is an amazing man. He has accomplished A TON in his life and he is not by any means, old. We have an interesting book in this class. During Thomas’s lectures, he “brings the book alive.” He gives an awesome perspective on life, police work, and administration that has proven itself successful time and time again. I wish it was mandatory for every person in America to take this guy’s class. I’ll share more about this later.
Argumentative and Persuasive Writing- This is an online section. Its boring, but its required. Last night, I wrote a paper critiquing a VERY interesting article that I will share about later. It deserves its own entry.
Work:
Well, after applying for over 20 jobs since Thanksgiving, I finally got one that I am starting Sunday night. I am working for a security company. My job site a large food distribution factory in Wixom, MI. It is actually right across the street from the golf course I work at. As of now, I am working 12:00am-8:00am on Saturday night through Wednesday night. My schedule will change though, since this is a brand new account for a security company. I’m kind of nervous about it, but its typical with any new job.
I’ll share more later. I have to get some stuff done.
Peace
